The trendiest shoes for spring and summer

Days out in the sun always seem like a good idea following chilly months spent mostly indoors. To fully enjoy spring strolls, wearing the best footwear is a must. In this blog post, fashion industry professional Remi Landau lets her readers in on the trendiest shoes for spring and the months to come.

Boat shoes are making a comeback. People are more likely to use and see these on the streets than in decks of yachts. The stylish shoes have gotten more accessible over the years and have started to look cooler when worn with classics such as chinos, shorts, oxford shirts, or button-down shirts. When the sun shines, it’s natural to slip into more colorful shoes. Pastel-colored flats and sandals can be paired easily with floral dresses.

Gum soles are timeless winners and easy shoes to wear throughout the year. However, this footwear particularly rocks during spring. Retro trainers go well together with joggers and tailored trousers. Sustainable footwear is all the buzz, thanks to the fashion industry’s move toward sustainability. Sustainable shoes by both micro and mega brands help individuals feel their best while taking care of the environment.

Better weather allows people to go for workouts outside. Tech-upgraded trainers enable wearers to track their runs and other stats while giving them unparalleled style and comfort. According to Remi Landau, Velcro sandals, much like gum soles and boat shoes, are making a huge comeback this season. Expect stylish individuals rocking Velcro sandals made by luxury brands and pairing them with dresses and other spring-worthy ensembles.

Five fashion tips for a spectacular pre-spring wardrobe

The shift between winter and spring can be confusing, especially to those who desire to keep their fashion weather-appropriate. Individuals who pay close attention to what they wear and make an effort to look great know that a pre-spring wardrobe must exist as the weather plays a few tricks before it completely slides into bright spring.

Keep trench coats on rotation to stay warm and fuzzy while looking fabulous. Invest in trench coats that go with everything for that easy winter-to-spring collection, says Remi Landau. The weather can be hard to read, especially during the final weeks of winter, so be sure to keep them in the closet. Allow brown to stay as it goes well with other neutral colors and bright spring shades.

Consider relaxed suits. These worthy investments go a long way and are a seamless transition from work to play. Relaxed suits can keep one comfy while looking sharp and pristine. Nothing reflects the vibe of spring better than an oversize, slouchy outfit. Chunky boots are in for both winter and spring. One can shed a few layers of clothing come spring, making chunky boots the best weapon to keep one warm during walks.

For fashion design professional Remi Landau, it takes guts to rock out bold silhouettes as the seasons change. Statement pieces such as mini dresses, leather trousers, wrap dresses, and more make great pre-fall wardrobe choices that can stay until the middle of spring. While it seems like a ton of work putting together outfits that last from winter to spring, it only takes creativity and confidence to pull them off.

A guide to picking the right shoes for outfits

It’s not every day one gets to rock a flawless ensemble. While style is totally subjective, some people suffer from fashion mishaps for wearing clothing pieces that don’t fit the occasion. Personal stylist Remi Landau shares a few tips to rock the right pair of shoes every time.

Choose shoes that complement the outfit, not strikingly go against it. For simple outfits, wearing busy-looking shoes would be a good move and vice versa. Should one decide to wear outfits with prints and accessories, a good pair that allows the prints and embellishment to shine is the best choice. Take a good spin in front of a mirror and check if the ensemble is balanced. Don’t be afraid to try on other pairs, as this allows one to develop their own fashion sense.

When wearing dresses, do as the royals do and match. While it is not expected for every person to keep shoes that match every single one of their dresses, there are subtle ways to dress up and match. This elegant look can be pulled off by pairing an outfit with heels that are a shade darker or lighter.

Personal stylist Remi Landau reminds her readers to avoid pairing their outfits with shoes made from the same material as their clothes. The last thing one wants is to look as if they made their whole look from the same material. Practice applying this technique even to casual looks for a fresher, more sophisticated style.

How should one dress up for video calls?

These days, video calls have taken the place of face-to-face meetings and social gatherings. But since everyone is still settling into the new normal, others are still trying to perfect how they will look on-screen. Remi Landau, a fashion professional, shares some style tips that can help a person look their best during important video calls.

For work calls: Wear tops that are appropriate for the office

A pajama top or an old school t-shirt might not exactly be what bosses want to see when speaking with their teams during a video conference. While it's acceptable to wear boxers or lounge pants during a meeting, the top should always look professional. Wearing structured shirts, blouses, or blazers can upgrade the work-from-home look. For those with a casual dress code, adding a cardigan or a blazer will make anyone feel more in the mood to tackle matters at work. Fashion enthusiasts like Remi Landau believe that during these challenging times, dressing well can help people feel confident and empowered.

For online meetups with friends and family: Showcase personal style

Remi Landau shares that during this time, those who stay indoors can still express themselves through their fashion. Getting out of one's sleepwear can help a person navigate the day better and feel less affected by cabin fever. For those who want to feel happier, wearing bright colored tops and accessories can boost one's mood. On the other hand, those who love their neutrals can still enjoy their go-to pieces and accessorize so that they can show up nice and polished when they show up on-screen. Looking good online will surely bring a smile even to the person on the other end.

How the fashion world reacted to COVID-19 pandemic

Every private and public sector reacted similarly when the outbreak of COVID-19 came to the U.S. Most businesses were shut down as employees were forced to self-isolate to prevent the further spread of the virus. The fashion world was no exception, according to fashion designer Remi Landau. However, unlike most industries that have shut down, fashion designers are doing their best to contribute whatever they can to help during these trying times.

The initial kneejerk reaction of the fashion world was expected. Stores and retail outlets have been closed, galas have been canceled, fashion shows postponed, and entire season's worth of designs left behind undrawn curtains. This has led to several executives receiving massive pay cuts, layoffs for both essential and non-essential workers in the industry, as well as some brands already filing for bankruptcy after several months of abysmal sales performance.

While the fashion industry was in dire straits, several people in the fashion industry recognized that the coronavirus was bigger than any economic and health crisis that came before. This is why influencers such as stylist Anna Rosa Vitiello and Bettina Looney coordinated a wardrobe clear out in their Instagram stories to raise money for Doctors Without Borders. Resale sites like Vestiaire Collective gathered donations from brands like Kate Moss, Thandie Newton, and Camille Charriere to sell to donate to local charities. And all over the world, Remi Landau has read of reports where fashion designers have been helping create PPE such as face masks and face shields for frontline medical workers.
