New York Fashion Week Debuts Trends for Spring 2019
Remi Landau draws from her extensive experience in styling, set design, and editorial publishing to work as a clothing designer for a high-end nightwear label. To stay informed on the latest trends in the fashion industry, Remi Landau regularly attends shows during New York Fashion Week.
In the second week of September 2018, dozens of fashion houses premiered their latest designs for the spring/summer 2019 season. Here are a few of the standout trends from the Fashion Week shows:
- Tie Dye. A toned-down version of the psychedelic print appeared in several lines. Highlights included a pastel look from Collina Strada and a monochromatic look from American design team Eckhaus Latta.
- Intimate Wear. Rihanna’s “Savage X Fenty” lingerie put intimate fashion on the center stage. Maryam Nassir Zadeh and Tom Ford also incorporated chic undergarments into their collections.
- Fishnet. In several collections, fishnets were used as a textural alternative to knits. The fabric appeared as outerwear, slouchy separates, and accessories. Fishnet was also featured heavily in Calvin Klein’s marine-themed show.

Modern Calligraphy Design Trends
Since graduating from Syracuse University in 2017, clothing designer Remi Landau has used her experience in personal styling and fashion editorial work to create a line of social nightwear. In her free time, Remi Landau pursues her other artistic passions, including drawing and calligraphy.
Calligraphy has become ubiquitous in modern branding and design. Calligraphy and other handwritten typefaces appear unique and personal, which attracts consumers looking for a personalized experience. Brands often incorporate handwritten messaging in their copy, logos, and online presence to convey appealing concepts, such as romance, tradition, beauty, and individualism.
Many calligraphers use their talent to personalize written correspondence, such as gift tags and greeting cards, for their clients. Innovative calligraphy tools such as metallic pens, glass markers, and acrylic inks have considerably expanded the market by making possible the placement of handwritten messages on a wider range of surfaces, including mirrors, leather, and wood.
